Intaka Learning Foundation connects young people in South Africa with the skills, support, and community they need to build independent futures.
We believe education creates lasting change — not just for individuals, but for entire communities. Our pilot program focuses on two practical pathways: remedial school support and technical vocational training.
Helping motivated students complete their school diploma by providing targeted tutoring, study materials, and a safe learning environment.
Supporting 10–15 young people through technical TVET education, mentorship, tools, and career guidance toward qualified employment.
Intaka Learning Foundation creates educational and economic opportunities for young people in South Africa who face financial barriers, lack of support, or limited access to technical training.
Many motivated young people are unable to complete their education due to poverty, unstable home environments, or a lack of local training options. We believe that targeted, community-rooted support can change that — one student at a time.
Our model is built on reinvestment. Students who gain employment through our programs are invited — on a voluntary basis — to give back through mentoring, small donations, or internship opportunities.
We aim to grow from a small pilot into a sustainable platform — adding trades like renewable energy training, small business support, and eventually a permanent community learning and mentorship center in Stellenbosch.
Intaka was founded by a small international team with deep roots in the Stellenbosch community. Our strength comes from combining strategic support from the Netherlands with strong local leadership in South Africa.
Michael and Karlijn initiated the foundation and lead fundraising, coordination, partnership development, and long-term strategic planning from the Netherlands.
Derrick, Henry, Paul, and Wayne drive strategic development, community engagement, local decision-making, and the day-to-day implementation of our programs on the ground.
During the pilot phase we focus on two practical education pathways — designed to test our model, evaluate impact, and build a strong foundation for future growth.
For students who need only 1–2 subjects to complete their school diploma. We connect them with tutors, study materials, internet access, and exam preparation — removing the practical barriers that stand between them and graduation.
